Formerly Free

Remove “formerly known as Twitter”

Formerly Free is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that cleans up web pages by removing phrases like “formerly known as Twitter”, “formerly Twitter”, and similar variants. If you’re tired of seeing these reminders everywhere, Formerly Free quietly removes them so you can read without the clutter.

Features

How It Works

Formerly Free extension popup showing modification count, toggle switch, and report button

Tooltip on Hover

When a phrase is removed, the word before it (e.g. “X”) gets a dotted underline. Hover over it to see what was deleted in a tooltip.

Hovering over the underlined word shows the removed phrase in a tooltip

Modification Count

When Formerly Free finds and removes phrases on a page, the number of modifications is displayed as a badge on the extension icon, so you can see at a glance how many changes were made.

Enable / Disable

Click the extension icon to open the popup, then toggle the switch to enable or disable Formerly Free. When disabled, pages will load without any modifications.

Report a Missing Page
